A plane ferrying the US defense secretary was forced to make an unscheduled landing in the UK on Wednesday due to a fissure was discovered in the plane's windshield, according to an official announcement which confirmed that all passengers were secure.
"The jet touched down following standard protocol and all individuals on the flight, such as Pete Hegseth, is safe," a spokesperson commented in a public statement.
The secretary was coming back from a short visit to Brussels at the time.
This event does not mark the initial instance that a American defense plane transporting a senior official has suffered equipment failures.
In a previous incident this year, a American military jet carrying the US Secretary of State to the German city of Munich was compelled to head back to Washington DC after encountering a technical issue.
