Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear in the latest Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Reports indicate that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

An Important Reunion for Fans

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The film welcomes several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:

  • Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

  1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
  3. The highly anticipated film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
